[Poll] Video Response

Nov 14, 2013 at 7:09 PM by Sean

I think that this video has taught me many things, but the most important one is "Would you die for poverty?" I certainly would. For one life to save billions and more to come, in my book it is totally worth it. I think that they also talk a lot about classes such as middle class, upper and lower class. When the people they interviewed all said middle class that made me think. Hmmm, why would they all say middle class even though later in the video they showed that they needed things that I think middle class people should already have. But why? I have a theory that they said that because they aren't exactly "poor" but want to show that they are still not he richest of them all. Now thats something to think about...

This video has told me many things. For example it has taught me that people in poverty may sometimes deny that they are in poverty. They may deny this because they may be more poor than some people, while they are less poor than some people. So they may consider themselves middle class. I noticed that in the video most people said that it was not people's fault if they were in poverty, but some people said it was their fault that they were in poverty. I believe that sometimes it is people's fault, and sometimes it is not that they are in poverty. For example if people do not try to get a job and they just sit around then it is their fault. Yet people try to get jobs and work hard but are born into poverty it is not there fault.

I thought the video was interesting and I admire the girl who did it because it must of took a long time to come up with such good questions. I think the cause of poverty is different for each person. the reason being that is that some people could try really hard in school but still struggle making it hard to get a good job. Or the other case which is not trying in school blowing of projects in papers in college leaving them with bad job opportunities, but I think the person could always get tutoring help so I think the person puts himself into that situation.

The video told me very interesting things. One part of it was when the girl asked them what they think they are " middle class, upper class, or lower class?" Everyone said they were middle class but then at the end of the video the girl asked them what they would want if they had more money? One man said he would buy a car, a cell phone, and a house. Another girl said she would buy a house. So they didn't have many of things that a lot of people have and need to get to different places like work. I think that it could be their fault but it also somethimes couldn't be their falt for being in poverish. It could be their fault if they didn't want to go to college and didn't get a good job and didn't earn that much money. It also sometimes couldn't be their fault if their parents didn't have enough money for their education and then they couldn't go to college because they didn't have enough money so they didn't get a good job and earn very much money.

I think that in the video, the most important question was,'What does poverty mean to you?' The people that answer said having very little to nothing and having so little that you struggle to support you family and even yourself. My idea of poverty is struggling to live and being in very unhealthy conditions. if you are impoverish, I don't think it it's your fault. what if you were born into it? what if you had lost your job?

The video we watched today in class was interesting to me. I really wonder how much time and effort it took for that girl to gather the people and interview them. My favorite part of it was when the girl asked them what they would buy if they had more money. I liked this part because everyone's answer was a lot different.

In one part a person said that people put themselves into poverty. When the person said this I cringed a little. To me, this is all wrong. I feel that sometimes people get born into poverty and sometimes get denied for jobs constantly no matter how hard they try.

I completely agree that people sometimes don't have choices. :cool

I think that it is not someones falt that they are born into a specific class. It is very hard to get out of poverty so your family might not even have the chance to get out of it! A part that stood out to me was the lady saying that she would die for poverty because that probably means she's experienced poverty and doesn't want anyone else to feel the pain she felt.cool

This video had some very interesting points. Almost all Americans view themselves as middle class. This happens because most people have more money than some but less money than some. What they don't realize is that the class system does not revolve around them.

I agree that some people cannot escape poverty. If they have a disability (mental or physical) it is near impossible. Most people do have a choice with complete poverty. There is almost always a job available even if it may not be the most appealing.

The video that we watched in class taught me many things. For example everyone wants to be in the middle class or higher, and most people will deny that they are in povery even if they are. Also, people will do anything to get out of poverty. Even some people would die to get rid of poverty. And, people's views of " The Middle Class" is very different. One of the qestions was what would you buy with extra money you had, and one person that said he was in "The Middle Class" said he would buy a car and a house, and people in "The Middle Class should have that.

This video has changed my view on poverty. For instance now I know some people care so much about people in poverty they are willing to give up their life to save millions. That is a big deal and I respect the people that would do that, but to take your own life... that's a big deal. I liked how the girl (the maker of the film) did something about how we all can change poverty and she didn't just sit around and talk about what we all could do.

the most interesting part was that each person changed their meaning of poverty so that they are not in it

I liked how you shared your own opinion and I agree with you when you said if isn't your fault if you are born into poverty. But I think it can be your fault if you loose your job.

Not necessarily Alex, Some people just get laid-off due to downsizing of big businesses...
