Technology Deprivation Project

Oct 29, 2013 at 10:48 AM by Stephanie Sefcik

We pledge our words of honor that we will not use our personal or family technological devices (iPads, iPhones, computers, TVs, game systems, etc) for a period of three days, beginning Tuesday, November 5-Thursday, November 7. We will not use friends' devices or sneak peeks at our friends' iPads or phones or computers.

After our experience, we will each post our reflections on this website. We will keep track of how we are doing and feeling during the three days in our notebooks. We think it's going to be really hard, especially when we see other people who will be using their own devices.

We hope to learn more about poverty and those who have to go without by discarding our own privilege for just three days.

This project was challenging but not to hard. It was kind of cool. It taught me a lot about how much I use technology and also hard it must be to rarely get to use technology.

This project taught me that a break in technology is not always a bad thing. I got a lot more sleep than usual, and I didn't rush on my school work. In the time I would have used the technology, I was reading a magazine, or I was outside. It was definitely a good experience for me.

This challenge of not using technology was not necessarily a bad thing. I got to read more and get more sleep, and also during this challenge I got to feel what it would be like without technology and I have always wanted to feel that feeling

When I first heard about this project, I was kinda mad. But after I actually got into it I realized that it was not so bad after all. In my free time I read books instead of tv and I think it helped me realize what it is like without technology.

I thought this project would be easy cool considering I was grounded from ipad in the first place. But when I got home I realized I had finished all my homework and wanted to play video games or watch TV. Sadly, I had to resist secretive the urge to play on it or even watch someone do it. At the end of the project, I felt releaved nad satisfied it was oveer. Now on 10/11/13 Sunday afternoon, I am getting ready to watch football and even as I write this I must use technology to type this. smile
