Sedimentation in Neuse River basin causes pollution by "dirt, trash, fertilizer and anything that can be run off and carried from the ground". One way that the problem of sedimentation was countered by the Clean Water Act of 1972. Sufficient protocols for waste disposal should decrease the effect of sedimentation because where there is plenty of running water, there can sometimes be more waste in the water
