Verde Island in the Philippines is suffering severe damage to their coral reefs and underwater life due to illegal smuggling of shells and turtles. If this illegal activity continues, the Philippines will be deprived of their natural resources for future generations. The United States is facing similar problems as coral reefs in the US Virgin Islands are under strict protection, as well as in the Florida Keys."The Philippines will fine the US Navy $1.4 million dollars for damaging more than 2,300 square meters of coral reefs at a marine sanctuary, an official said on Friday." As citizens of a country it is our duty to protect and enforce wildlife preservation efforts to conserve natural resources.
