Canadian Energy Production | gmiller |
This site provides a detailed look at Canada's energy facts, statistics, and maps.
DF - this website is an energy industry site that doesn't even acknowledge CC so I would not use this |
Changes All Around | Stephen MacKinnon |
Sara "In small groups, students examine the climate of countries in different environments and then predict what might happen to the climate of a particular country as the earth warms."
DF - as noted elsewhere - needs to be supplemented - now contains info on two US States and no Canadian references. |
Climate Change 101 Federal Action | Stephen MacKinnon |
This report discusses federal policy options that can put the country on the path toward a lower-carbon future. Sara **** "an American report but can be adapted to work with Canadian content!" Jun 20th, 2012 Manage |
Climate Change 101 International Action | Stephen MacKinnon |
This report discusses what will be needed for an effective global effort, one calling for commitments from all the world's major economies. Jun 20th, 2012 Manage |
Climate Change 101 Local Action | Stephen MacKinnon |
This report describes the actions taken by cities and towns.
DF - all these CC101 items are rich resources but not activities so only useful for reference unless we make lessons to go with them. |
Climate Change 101 Technical Solutions | Stephen MacKinnon |
This piece discusses the technological solutions both for mitigating its effects and reducing greenhouse gas emissions now and into the future. Jun 20th, 2012 Manage |
Climate Change and Health | Stephen MacKinnon |
Sara "There is growing evidence that our climate is changing and that these changes are affecting the health and well-being of citizens in countries throughout the world, including Canada."
DF - good information but just an information source as is - no activity associated with the site |
Confronting Climate Change in the Great Lakes Region | Stephen MacKinnon |
This resource discusses the study of climate change projections through analysis of temperature change in the great lakes region over time.
DF - very specific and highly detailed analysis of great lakes - not sure how students would use this - suggest not including |
Consumerism and Climate Change | gmiller |
In this simulation activity students experience how resources are used and distributed based on access to wealth with attention paid to environmental and societal implications. Students then discuss the impacts of their consumption to climate change.
DF - this looks good! very engaging STSE activity Jun 24th, 2012 Manage |
Energy Explorations | Stephen MacKinnon |
Sara "In small groups, students read about various sources of energy used for electricity production, identify pros and cons of these energy sources, and take a position on whether these sources should be used or not."
DF - this is a nice option for introducing energy sources |
Food Insecurity and Climate Change | Stephen MacKinnon |
This visual aid document consists of a map featuring food insecurity in the world through the percentage of population undernourished and the hunger and climate vulnerability index. A short text explains the linkages between climate change and food security. Jun 20th, 2012 Manage |
How Much Does CO2 Cost | gmiller |
This is a cap and trade game where students work as a team to calculate how much they need to pay for their CO2 production. Follow up questions promote critical thinking around cap and trade, regulations, taxes.

Wedge Game | momahony |
This is an activity from Princeton University's Environmental Institute that has been around for the last few years. It takes some time, but provides a very realistic approach to looking at actions to remediate CC. We may wish to modify some of the criteria and/or add some.
Game board being loaded separately.
DF - looks very interesting - have you done this with students? They say 2-3 classes which is a very large time commitment for the Unit. |
Wedge Game Gameboard | momahony |
Game board. Jun 26th, 2012 Manage |
What's Happening Out There? | Stephen MacKinnon |
Examples of climate change solutions undertaken by governments and businesses
DF - this is "ok" but nothing special - I would not bother with it. |
